Research-informed spatial intelligence for complex real-world challenges
WHO WE ARE
MappLab is an interdisciplinary consultancy based in Leigh, Aotearoa New Zealand, operating at the intersection of ecology, technology, and spatial science. We bring together expertise in environmental systems, digital innovation, and applied research to deliver precision mapping, spatial modelling, and analytical solutions.
Our background spans conservation science, education, advanced digital systems, and geospatial methods for research and decision-making. We apply systems thinking to support complex, cross-sector projects that require both technical rigour and contextual sensitivity.
Rooted in science and shaped by research, MappLab develops tools and insights that bridge knowledge and action.
PEOPLE
CLAUDIO AGUAYO – FOUNDER

Claudio Aguayo is the founder of MappLab. His work sits at the intersection of spatial intelligence, digital systems, immersive design, and interdisciplinary research — combining advanced mapping, modelling, and digital innovation to address complex real-world challenges. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Biology and a PhD in Science and Technology Education, and has led research and innovation initiatives across environmental, educational, social, and digital domains.
For over 15 years, Claudio has worked at the interface between people and technology. Today, he translates advanced spatial and digital capabilities into practical applications. Through MappLab, he brings academic depth into industry practice, drawing on interdisciplinary expertise to combine the right capabilities and deliver rigorous spatial intelligence, analytical clarity, and scalable digital solutions.
Grounded in systems thinking and complexity science, his work views mapping not simply as technical capture, but as a way of structuring reality into insight — enabling better decisions and informed action.
